“Ike” is a 2016 AQHA chestnut gelding with an outstanding saddle horse resume—one earned over many years, many miles, and a lot of real life work.

Standing 15.3HH, Ike is gentle, sound, safe, and solid. This kind-eyed, people-pleasing gelding has worked for a living and seen a lot of big country. He’s the kind of horse you can turn out, give time off, and pick right back up where you left off.

He’s extremely reliable for the tougher jobs, handling whatever is asked of him with ease, but he’s just as happy to take you for a Sunday stroll. He doesn’t require a big day to handle the small ones, but when you need a workhorse, he has the tools for the job.

Ike confidently navigates riding out alone, steep country, bogs, creeks, deadfall, and whatever else the country puts in front of him. He gets along well within a herd, hauls great, and is an easy keeper.

Ike is part of the Stump Lake Ranch string, and I took a great liking to him very quickly. He and I have shared many hours together in the mountains—often alone, out of cell service, and tackling a variety of jobs. From fencing forestry, to doctoring cattle, to living out at cow camp, he’s been the reliable horse I could count on.

He’s also been the horse delegated to taking care of guests and children who come to join us on the ranch. A testament to the kind of mind he carries.

If you’re looking for a confidence builder, an experienced horse to take you to the next level, or an all-around family horse, Ike is your guy.

I’ll sure be missing my right hand man come next season. Anyone would be lucky to own this horse.

Ike is consigned to the 2027 Art of the Cowgirl Elite Horse sale. The sale takes place at Rancho Rio in Wickenburg, AZ Feb 27th, 2027.
